Training Schedules for the Way You Work

SLIM-Suite training is now available in convenient half-day sessions tailored to fit your busy work schedule! Our redesigned training courses are delivered in three-hour class sessions, starting at 10 a.m. Eastern time and ending at 1 p.m. each day. Our online classrooms and virtual labs will get you up to speed quickly, even if you haven’t yet installed SLIM-Suite tools in your environment.

A specified number of training seats are included with most SLIM licenses for no extra charge. Please contact your QSM Account Manager for details.

SLIM-Estimate Training

Overview

SLIM-Estimate training presents the SLIM (Software Life Cycle Management) estimation process as embodied in the SLIM tool suite. You will learn how producing defensible estimates begins with data from historical projects that demonstrate true capabilities, either from your organization or QSM's large industry database. An introduction to SLIM-DataManager is included. This course teaches the fundamental nonlinear relationship between size, productivity, time, effort, and quality, and their tradeoffs. You will learn how to size projects using a variety of measures, such as Requirements, Function Points, and Story Points, and why size is a key estimate input. Working with the tools for a majority of the class, you will learn how to quantify risk, optimize for project constraints, run multiple estimate scenarios to assess alternatives, and present estimates to stakeholders and decision-makers. This course teaches you how to estimate a variety of project types and development environments, including complex projects and project portfolios using SLIM-MasterPlan.

Duration

This course is instructor-led, delivered in 3, 3-hour online class sessions, starting at 10 a.m. Eastern time and ending at 1 p.m. each day. Our virtual computer labs will get you up to speed quickly, even if you haven’t yet installed SLIM-Suite tools in your environment.

SLIM-Control Training

Overview

SLIM-Control Training goes beyond simple cost, schedule, and earned value project tracking to teach project control using product measures. You will learn how to use early warning indicators and control bounds to assess the impact of plan versus actual deviations, and take appropriate corrective action. You will have hands-on experience using SLIM-Control's method of forecasting estimates to complete and re-baselining plans based on actual performance. You will learn how to define custom metrics to assess special risk, how defect tracking helps you determine when quality is acceptable for product delivery, and how to create management dashboard reports.

Duration

Self-paced eLearning module; 3 hours of content.
Hands-on exercises using this SLIM-Suite application. Presentation slides with audio, supplemented with video; quizzes re-enforce key concepts and build tool skills.

SLIM-Metrics Training

Overview

SLIM-Metrics training presents the fundamentals of software project metrics collection and analysis for benchmarking and process improvement. SLIM-Metrics works with SLIM-DataManager to assess historical project performance and create custom statistical trends used as a source of estimate assumptions and validation. In this course you will learn how to easily build queries and group data into related “data sets, calculate and display summary statistics (average, median, quartiles, standard deviation, min/max values), create regression trend lines and import them into SLIM-Estimate, SLIM-Control, or SLIM-Collaborate, and benchmark performance against industry or internal trends.

SLIM-DataManager Training

Overview

SLIM-DataManager - SLIM-DataManager is a simple, yet powerful data repository that serves a very important role in the SLIM process. Defensible project estimates are based on known capabilities – what are reasonable assumptions for schedule, effort, cost, staffing and productivity for projects of different types and sizes. In this course you will learn that only a handful of core metrics are required to compute productivity and understand key characteristics of your development environment, how to create custom metrics, calculate user defined variables, organize and validate historical project data and much more.
