*+ "Introduction to the High Performance Benchmark Consortium" Webinar presented by Joe Madden on Thursday, February 25

QSM has introduced a program specifically designed to help software development or acquisition organizations quantify and demonstrate performance improvement over time. The High Performance Benchmark Consortium is for clients who want to be best in class software producers and are willing to be active participants in the program. In today’s economic environment it is more important than ever for both suppliers and acquirers to compete more effectively and provide value to their customers. Members of the Consortium gain access to proprietary research that leverages the QSM historical benchmark database of over 8,000 validated software projects.

Presented by benchmarking expert and head of QSM Consulting, Joe Madden, this webinar will discuss:

  • the major components of the program
  • the different levels of membership participation
  • the benefits of being a member
  • sample deliverables that a typical member would receive

*+ "Managing Productivity with Proper Staffing Strategies" Webinar presented by John Bryant

In this economy, we have to do more with less. We want to maximize productivity and minimize costs and defects. The problem is, the way to achieve maximum efficiency is counter-intuitive. We always think more effort will produce more product. The fact is, often less effort is needed. Presented by industry expert, John Bryant, this webinar explains and proves the correct way to maximize productivity while at the same time minimizing cost and defects. It can be done. We'll show you how.

John Bryant has over forty years of IT experience with the last several using the SLIM Suite of products to improve the software development process by properly estimating, tracking, and analyzing software development efforts. His experience includes project management, teaching and mentoring from initial project evaluation and planning through construction.

What's New at QSM?

Joe Madden joins QSM team to lead consulting practice as Vice President of Professional Services

An enthusiastic client of the QSM SLIM tool suite for 10 years and co-author of the book IT Measurement: Practical Advice from the Experts, Joe Madden brings with him over 16 years of business experience in management and IT consulting, including 10 years with "big four" consulting firms KPMG and BearingPoint where he lead a profitable practice team that sold and delivered many high-visibility projects. Madden will be responsible for leading continued growth of the QSM consulting practice with an expanded set of solution offerings to include: software estimation, function point analysis, IT program and project management, independent verification and validation (IV&V), process improvement, benchmarking, research, SLIM API programming, and outsourcing of key functions within an IT organization that require specialized skills such as estimation, metrics, and quality management.

QSM is well known in the marketplace as an estimation tools vendor, but few of QSM's own clients are aware of the company's consulting services capabilities and track record of hundreds of successfully completed consulting engagements.

"That is going to change," says Joe Madden. "With a 30 year reputation as a thought leader in IT management best practices, a historical database of over 7000 IT projects to draw upon and a client base that extends across the globe, QSM is perfectly positioned to be a significant player in the consulting business. Our goal is to become a trusted business advisor to all of our clients. Our growth strategy includes offering the full suite of consulting services to established tools clients, forming strategic partnerships with consulting companies who share our commitment to client success, and leveraging our status as a small business to compete for and win government contracts."

QSM has teamed up with the Ready for Rational Partner Program to bring the added value of QSM's renowned Project Estimation and Planning, Measurement, Project Control and Adaptive Forecasting processes to Rational RMC users. SLIM/RMC plug-in processes support the achievement of higher maturity levels such as SEI’s CMMI and ISO 9000, which are of increasing importance to Rational customers.

On the Downloads page, the API documentation for SLIM-Estimate, SLIM-Control, and SLIM-DataManager has been improved and expanded with lots of user-friendly examples to help you get up to speed quickly. There is just one API download for the entire SLIM-Suite - you can download it from either the SLIM-Estimate, SLIM-Control, or SLIM-DataManager sections of the Downloads page. You'll need to use your API password, though - if you haven't yet registered for a username and password for the clients-only areas of the QSM web site, you can do so here.

While you're in the clients-only area, check out the new additions to the Templates page - we've added an Agile estimation template, one for sizing Data Warehouse projects, and we've updated our RUP template.

A Code Counter links page has been added to the Support section of the web site. It contains links to code counters for Java, VB, HTML, Perl, C++, Oracle PL/SQL, and many other programming languages.
